PHYSICAL
APPEARANCE:

HEIGHT: 5'9
PB: Louisa Connolly-Burnham
PERSONALITY
LIKES: Organizing, reading, debating, playing with her hair, ironing (it is relaxing to press out all the wrinkles okay), warm weather (why oh why did she choose this school), scarves, word puzzles, pinafore dresses, coffee, caffeine in anyform really.
DISLIKES: Being cold, camping (this is a discovery by attending Gooseberry basically and well she is too stubborn to admit defeat), people bringing up the irony she is a ginger and her name is Ginger, disorganization, things not going to plan
PERSONALITY: Ginger was raised in a family that aimed to have family dinners and at these family dinners they were encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas. Essentially, she was raised in a family that encouraged lively debate at the dinner table, as long as it was constructive and did not get personal. So as one would imagine this fostered part of her personality, the opinionated side the side that would easily share her thoughts and opinions. The side that would talk openly without embarrassment and encourage others to carry on a conversation with her. She usually aimed to be constructive and not let things get petty, though she is a teenager after all.
Ginger is a well-articulated teenager because of her parent's encouragement around the dinner table. She comes from a well-educated family that prides themselves on how they present themselves to the world. It comes as no surprise her need for organization and to present herself properly comes from this need that her mother impressed upon her, that each time she stepped outside she represented the O'Toole family and that to not would a great slight upon her family. As a result, it has made Ginger knit-picky and particular about her appearance, her work, and her living space. Some would say she is on the fringe of obsessing over it.
Confidence is not something Ginger lacks. She was built up by her parents to have confidence and to feel like the world could offer her endless possibilities, but only if she worked for them. She was never given a free ride, despite the fact she came from money. Sure that has helped give her major headstarts and she does acknowledge that but was always taught she needed to work for things to make them worth it. Success is what aided her confidence and she probably wouldn't have had success without the support of her parents. They even accepted the fact she was magical and different, seeing it as a wonderful gift that she could do so much more. Ginger is confident because her parents gave the ability to be confident. She feels comfortable with sharing her ideas and able to stand behind them because she feels she has founded them on logic and knowledge.
So yeah, a side-effect of the confidence is the know-it-all and thinks she is always right syndrome. Yeah, she can be a bit bitchy when she thinks you are being a fool. She has been known to sound condescending when she thinks she has the right opinion and that you just aren't seeing reason or getting it. She has some stuck-up rich girl side to her, despite her mother's best efforts. It does partially come from the fact she often is right, but she is human and that does mean she can and will be wrong, she isn't perfect and everyone makes mistakes. Though to think Ginger would be gracious when she is wrong or made a mistake would be a mistake on your part, she really doesn't like it. She also can be a pain in the ass when she is right rubbing it in your face if she feels it was a particularly hard-fought battle. Though this would, of course, be in private, if it was in public domain where it could affect the family name then she would be gracious of course. So yes, Ginger does have a posh fake side to her but since she is here at school miles from her family she tends to be a bit more snarky and mean girl when she is right and less than gracious when wrong, she hates admitting she is wrong.
Dedication is another positive attribute of Ginger's. She likes to see thing through to completion and she hates giving up. In Ginger's mind failure is not an option. She has taken this approach to her education. She loves to learn though so that is a positive. She wants to learn everything she can because then she can make informed conclusions and that is important to her. Ginger really does thurst for knowledge. She does have a tendancy to overload herself with her ambition. She has taken on too much before, that is for sure. Taking on too much or being too ambitious with a project does not usually end well for Ginger, and she is often too stubborn to see that it will not end well until it is too late. She is too stubborn to give up.

HISTORY
FAMILY MEMBERS:
Bartley O'Toole - Democrat Politician; Muggle
Fiona O'Toole - Professor at Berkeley; Muggle
Cillian O'Toole - Ivy League; 20; Muggle
HISTORY: The O'Toole family were so pleased when they gave birth to a baby girl they would name Ginger. Ginger was the second born child with an older brother, the O'Tooles were the "perfect" family from outside perspective and honestly it was close to the truth. The O'Tooles are a close knit family and well off financially which means they don't want for much at all. Sure they have their hiccups but really they are a happy family. Sure there are stresses of being proper in the public eye since her father is involved in politics and her mother frets about public opinion. But they are happy they get along and Ginger's parents played an active role in her childhood. Family dinners were very important as she was growing up they aimed to have them nightly. The O'Tooles wanted to ensure they gave their children the best start in life. Ginger does look back fondly on her childhood because she has great memories of family trips, birthday parties, and family moments. Sure things weren't perfect all the time and Ginger and her brother had their spats, but what siblings didn't.
When she was a young girl strange things would just happen around her. Her mother noticed it at first, well technically Cillian did but he was just tattling on his little sister for doing something. Fiona couldn't explain how Ginger was able to do things and kept it to herself to start, but then Bartley started noticing it as well. There was something different about Ginger but they had no idea what. As they were No Majs they had no idea about the magical world, completely unaware, until a member of the magical world ended up on their doorstep to shed light on why Ginger was different. Ginger was a witch. It was definitely a surprise but explained a lot of things. They had some choices to make, namely where they would educate their daughter. It was a tough choice but they decided to send Ginger to Ilvermorny. They had never wanted to send their children to boarding school, but from the limited exposure to the magical world, they felt Ilvermorny was the best school option available for them. It was definitely a change going from such close-knit family to being on her own. Ginger would write home regularly and be back for every school break. When she came home they wanted to hear about how her schooling was going and family dinners were as frequent as possible.
Life at Ilvermorny was a big change for Ginger. Not only was she being exposed to the magical world for the first time, but she was away from home. It was an adjustment for sure and she definitely went through some homesickness, but because she was such a chatty and opinionated young girl she found her place in the school with time. She really enjoyed learning about magic and the magical world. She definitely did some extra research because she felt so behind, but she was pleased to know not everyone had prior education and she wasn't that far behind. She developed some skill in transfiguration magic and definitely found it to be the most "magical" in her eyes since she came from a No Maj family because heck it was transforming something into something else. Ginger loved her time at Ilvermorny, but there was part of her that thought she wanted to experience something else and might flourish elsewhere. Cillian had gone to an alternative high school himself and flourished she wondered if she could do that in the magical world as well. She heard some of the other students in her year and upperclassman discussing Gooseberry, she started to do her research early because she liked to well informed. With all her research done she made her choice that she wanted to apply to Gooseberry, but need to get her parents on board. They supported her choice if she thought it was what would give her the best education for where she wanted to go. Ginger really enjoyed the senior project aspect and the focus of excellence.
Ginger would apply to Gooseberry and was accepted. Her parents were pleased for her even if they were a bit sceptical about the more rustic aspect of the school since that was not something Ginger had experienced before. Ginger kind of glossed over that aspect as she was more in love with the school program. It is safe to say the more rustic feel of the school was a big culture shock. There were moments when she second-guessed her choice but she was far too stubborn to give up and besides she loved the classes. Her freshman year at Gooseberry was good, she focused on her academics but also made an effort to make some social connections. Ginger would say her freshman year was simpler when she looks back on it now, but at the time it felt a little overwhelming but she did flourish.
Sophomore year was a different story, if she thought Freshman year was overwhelming sophomore was off the charts. Sophomore year had lots of drama that she was opinionated on for sure, but even more than that the year ended in a really messed up way. Yeah, sure she still got her education but on a social side Sophomore year was absolutely crazy. She didn't share any of it with her parents afraid they wouldn't let her come back, it was the first time she wasn't honest with them. Ginger wanted to go back because she started something and wanted to see it through. Though Gooseberry is pretty freaking weird and very dramatic. Ginger has made the choice not to stay so silent this year because some of this drama just needs to end in her opinion.
SCHOOL
YEAR: Junior
HOUSE: Ebonhide; Thunderbird (Ilvermorny)
SORTING: Ginger thought she was prepared for the sorting, she had done her research but the experience standing in front of the emblems was nothing she could prepare herself for. She felt like she had a conversation with them it was not exactly what she had expected. She wasn't really sure where she belonged but eventually the emblems came to a decision just on the verge of a professor coming in. They came to the concensus that she would flourish in Ebonhide.
WAND: Dragon Heartstring core, Ebony Wood, 11 inches
FAMILIAR: None.
CLASSES: Charms, Hermeticism, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Wizard Lit
ADVANCED STUDY: None. (If a spot opens to Animagus she would want it though, but she does not hinge on this)
SENIOR PROJECT: She has not figured out the finer points yet but she wants to develop a support system for muggleborns to connect and get support as they adjust into the magical world.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Ginger is a diligent student and very focused, she works very hard on her assignments. There are times though when she over extends herself and the product is not as good as it could be. She hates procrastinating so she usually tries to finish ahead of time. In class she is the type to offer up opinions, answer questions as well as ask them. Ginger favourite class is Transfiguration because she is good at it and her least favourite would be Herbology she did it for one year and then decided it was not for her the whole dirty thing.
EXTRACURRICULARS: Archery, Boating (though does not always attend when she is feeling outdoory she will), Duelling & Fencing
